Come up to “Reggae ‘Pon the Mountain” Saturday, June 26, at the Topanga Community House. It’s only $20 for an entire day of reggae music featuring Pato Banton. Ras Michael, and Quinto Sol. There will be local and regional artists as well.
One cool thing about this concert is the producers – two guys who grew up here in Topanga and wanted to produce a fun event to support the Community House and its youth services programs. Best wishes for a successful event to Brooks Ellis and Amit Gilad!

One of my very favorite Topanga events is taking place this weekend, June 12-13th. The Topanga Canyon Gallery Studio Tour 2010 begins at the gallery in Pine Tree Circle and then goes wherever you want to take it! The tour is a self-guided wandering through 25 studios of our wonderful Topanga artists in residence with guest artists who know how special it is to be a part of the Topanga experience. It’s also a nice way to see the different neighborhoods within Topanga, each with it’s own personality and character.
Where: Pick up Tour Guide Booklet & tickets at 120 N. Topanga Cyn. Blvd. #109
When: Saturday June 12th — 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Sunday June 13th — 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Cost: Presale $15, Tour Days $20 1 ticket is good for both Saturday and Sunday
Reception & Silent Auction: Saturday 12th 5 – 8 p.m.
After touring so much beauty on Saturday, come back to the gallery for the artists’ reception. It is always a nice, relaxing evening of people mingling and sipping and talking about which studios were their favorites. Don’t miss the silent auction for the gorgeous art on the Wall of Squares – squares of art each artist donates to raise money for the gallery. The variety of medias and styles make this one interesting display of talent. Many of the items are the subject of some fierce bidding – I dare you to win my choice away from me! Come give it your best shot.
This Friday, May 28, the new Topanga Farmer’s Market will have its grand opening event. Pine Tree Circle is the place where local farmer’s will bring fresh, local produce for us to purchase.
The developer, Howell Tumlin, is the Executive Director for the Southland Farmer’s Market Association. In an interview by Flavia Potenza in the Topanga Messenger, Tumlin described the market as “boutique” and geared to an area with a smaller population.
Special guest this Friday will be Amelia Saltsman, author, who will sign copies of her book “The Santa Monica Farmer’s Market Cookbook.” I took a look at her cookbook and there are some great ideas for veggies, along with stories about the growers that bring us this nourishment. Canyon Gourmet will have copies available for purchase.
